Army carries out exercise in Peel Forest

Armed men in Peel Forest and Iroquois pilots flying over Timaru today were simply keeping their skills up, New Zealand Defence Force says.

A spokesperson said about 30 young soldiers from the New Zealand Infantry Regiment had been learning navigation skills in the Peel Forest Park Scenic Reserve in the early morning.

A morning Air Force Iroquois flight over Timaru was unconnected to the army exercise, and was "just a keeping up the flying hours flight".
