Lovely ladies pull in $20,000 for library
The recent Miss Waitaki Valley 2014 Beauty Pageant has shown there are plenty of men in the area keen to get in touch with their feminine side.
Eight men ditched their regular garb for high heels and ball gowns at the event, held at the Kurow Memorial Hall.
The pageant was held to raise funds for the refurbishment of the Kurow Community Library and was organised Waitaki Valley Friends of the School.
Contestants performed an opening dance number and then performed individual talent acts, followed by an evening wear section with questions and answers.
The competition was completed with a performance of the Village People's classic YMCA by all contestants.
The lady who wowed the judges the most and crowed Miss Waitaki Valley 2014 was Sheneeda Digga, while Ivana Humpalot was named Miss Congeniality and Cindy Hotdog won the People's Choice Award.
Other contestants were Glenda Bender, Amanda Reckonwith, Helga McFly, Madam Fullbody and Vaitress Ontapp. Each contestant participated under an alias to protect their identity.
Secretary Odelle Hawkins confirmed the event raised $20,000 for the library refurbishment project.
"We are truly proud of our contestants and their hard work and dedication to the show," she says.
"The Waitaki Valley Friends of the School committee are thrilled with the support and turnout from the local community."
