Clay shooters break drought with shield
The Timaru Clay Target Club has won back the Bodkin Shield after a 43-year drought.
The Bodkin is considered the "Ranfurly Shield" of clay target shooting in the South Island.
The Timaru Clay Target Club have won it only three times, the last in 1971.
Each of the team of six had 15 targets off 15 metres, and Timaru shot 87 out of 90 to win by one target.
There were 30 teams chasing the Bodkin in Alexandra. The successful Timaru Clay Target Club team was made up of Tom Lewis, Donald Dow, Warren Darling, Barry Foster, Craig Pilcher and Mike Sime.
Lewis has been competing for the shield since 1974 and was the first time the 73-year-old has been successful.
