Bishop to open Craighead hostel
Craighead is opening the doors of its improved boarding hostel Shand House today after being closed for two years.
The hostel will be officially opened by the Anglican bishop of Christchurch, Bishop Victoria Matthews, at a ceremony today at 2.30pm.
Shand House was closed for earthquake strengthening in March 2012 and 43 boarders were relocated to a school hall.
However, the Len Homes wing, an addition built in 1990, had remained open.
In March Craighead employed media personality and former politician Michael Laws to procure funds for the $3 million building and a new gymnasium it hoped to build.
Shand House was completed earlier in term three with boarders able to move back in.
