The scene was set for a magical night on Friday when Timaru Boys' High School ball-goers turned up for their Harry Potter-themed evening.

Although no-one arrived in a flying Ford Anglia, ball-goers arranged a variety of modes of transport to reach their destination.

A giant sorting hat, Dementors, dragons and a replica of Platform 9 3/4 were just some of the attractions on offer.

Cam Neale said it took three months of hard work, using any time they could to finish - even cutting classes - and "lot of zip-ties and duct tape" to get all the decorations ready.
