Winchester Rural School is gearing up for its Gourmet Gala.

The fundraiser will be held this Friday and will feature a number of food activities as well as white elephant items, a book stall and a "rambling rove".

According to deputy principal Jacquie Lester the gala was held every three years and this was the fourth.

"Last time we raised just under $5,000 and it's always a big event on the Winchester Rural School calendar."

Celebrity chef Allyson Gofton from Food In A Minute will be a guest at the gala. She will be judging a Dad's bake-off and a mystery ingredients cook off with two personalities, as well as a decorated cake competition. Cakes will be auctioned off on the night.

A tug-of-war competition will also be held as well as a "rambling rove" where families can travel around the district to fInd landmarks. After answering cryptic clues they will then go in the draw to win a food and accommodation prize from the Mount Cook Hermitage valued at $800.

Funds from the evening will be spent on readers for instructional reading.

The gala will begin at 4pm and run until late.
