Timaruvians put their best food forward for the Great New Zealand Bake-Off in Timaru on Monday night.
About 130 people turned up to hear well-known television cook Allyson Gofton talk about her latest book Bake: favourite homemade recipes and to see who would win the three sections in the bake-off.
Meg Catherwood won the cake section with her coffee sponge. She was also the overall winner and her name goes into a nationwide draw to win a microwave.
Val Robertson won the biscuits-slices section with her gingernuts, while 14-year-old Charlotte McKay won the muffin-cupcakes section with her pink-and-white cupcakes. Her mother Dale accepted her prize on her behalf.
Gofton is best known for presenting Food In a Minute. She was in Timaru as part of her nationwide book tour and acted as judge for the night.
The evening was organised by Timaru's Altrusa club as a fundraiser for South Canterbury Plunket. Plunket representative Debbie Kingan said the amount raised was not yet known, but both Altrusa and Plunket members were happy with the turnout.
