SECOND HOME: Former Timaru woman Carol Stigley has been appointed as the new Consul General of Denmark in Wellington. She was at the Phar Lap statue unveiling with her parents, Eddie and Betty Thompson, who live in Timaru and contribute to the Phar Lap Trust.

A former Timaru woman has been appointed as the new Consul General of Denmark in Wellington.

Carol Stigley was appointed by the Queen of Denmark, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II and her position was announced by the Ambassador of Denmark to New Zealand, Susanne Shine during a visit to Wellington recently.

Ms Stigley was born and raised in Timaru, attending Sacred Heart and Mercy College, now Roncalli College.

After completing a history degree at Canterbury University she joined the Government and Trade Commissioners Service and was the first married trade commissioner to be sent overseas when she was posted to London from 1976 to 1980.

She also held the role of chief executive of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs between 1989 and 1995 before going on to run Local Government New Zealand.
