Police chase in South Canterbury

Police in South Canterbury have cornered a vehicle which led officers on a chase along State Highway One.
The pursuit began about 9.45pm when the driver of a silver Ford Falcon failed to stop for police near Washdyke, north of Timaru. The driver was "boxed in" around 10.30pm, ending the chase.
Police had earlier abandoned the chase on SH8 when the driver reached speeds up more than 140 kilometres per hour.
They caught up with the vehicle in Temuka, where it was reported that the vehicle was travelling at speeds of up to 150 km per hour.
