Nature's abundance has inspired the Heartland Sculpture Challenge's entry installed at Pleasant Point.
The sculpture, Nature's Open Heart, is the first of eight to be installed, with five being placed at the Bay Viaduct entrance and single works to be placed in Geraldine and Temuka.
Auckland sculptor Lauren Kitt has been working fulltime as a sculptor for 25 years after graduating from a Californian University with a fine arts degree.
She became aware of the sculpture challenge after a friend entered last year. "It [the sculpture] is in the shape of a leaf and an upside down heart that is opening. It is meant to represent the abundance of nature."
Event organiser Henri Stein said the sculptures are to be unveiled on Sunday, giving the public a week to vote before the Art on the following Sunday.
