Police have spoken to two children responsible for smashing a number of windows in Waimate.
The boys, aged nine and 11, were in CYF's care, but went on a smashing spree in the town from about 10pm on Sunday to 3am yesterday, constable Rebecca Aitchison said.
The pair spilled oil, threw rocks through large shop windows and also over the road and then broke a truck's windows and climbed inside, she added.
The boys' caregivers took them to police yesterday morning.
Ms Aitchison said one of the caregivers had gone into check on the boys and saw they were gone. Police found the boys sitting in the truck and returned them home, but did not realise they had caused any damage.
