The concept of man and woman standing together has inspired a new sculpture in Temuka.
Steve Molloy's entry in the Timaru District Heartland Sculpture Challenge has been installed near the southern entry to the Temuka township.
The Auckland-based sculptor lived in Timaru for 14 years before moving north and turning his hand to the art form.
He describes his work as part of a series which considers the relationship between men and women.
"Pillars are the starting line and the strength of them represents the man and the V [in between the pillars] represents the feminine.
"It represents man and woman standing still together."
As part of the series he has also created similar sculptures made of wood and stone.
Eight sculptures all up have been installed and the public can vote this week before the Art on the Bay day on Sunday.
Two awards will be up for grabs: the public choice award (with voting to be conducted through The Timaru Herald), and the judges' award.
