Altrusa International elects new board

Service organisation Altrusa International Inc of Timaru, celebrated their year's changeover with a dinner at Seven Oaks at the end of May.
The new board was installed, consisting of: President Sue Thompson, vice-president Helen Henderson, recording secretary Raewyn Hutton, corresponding secretary Betty Weavers, treasurer Jenny Bevin, directors Mary Hawke, Helen Sexton, Mary Stringer, past president Jenny Bevin.
The installation ceremony was performed by Sue Campbell.
The club recently celebrated a debate win against Timaru Rotary Club. The topic "That males are better drivers" was a good incentive, and Sue Thompson, Helen Sexton, and Helen Henderson's spirited delivery ensured an overall win.
The recipient of the Olwen Norton scholarship this year was Janice Bernard, a design and visual arts student.
The "Sands" group were given $1000 towards bereavement kits and eight members went to District 15 Conference in May.
The club was the recipient of the June Garth past governors award, and second prize for the year book. The group was also highly commended for the Leitha H Brown literacy award.
