Frequent fliers from Timaru's Richard Pearse Airport will save up to 30 per cent on tickets in a trial by Air New Zealand.

The cost of flying the Timaru to Wellington route has been slated in the past, but Air NZ says the discount programme is aimed at giving frequent fliers more value for money.

South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce chairman Steve Lyttle said while he flew enough to get good deals on airfares, he would still consider the programme, and added other people would too.

"A high percentage of flying out of Timaru is business travel, and I think it would be received pretty well," Mr Lyttle said.
