HUNDREDS of daffodils welcomed visitors to the Timaru Horticultural Society's spring show in the Caroline Bay Hall over the weekend.

Entry numbers in the daffodil sections were the best received for many years, with recent rain and sunny days proving ideal for the growth of these popular flowers, although entries in other sections of the annual show were similar to previous years.

The Champion Daffodil Bloom award went to a section two bloom named "Way By", featuring a yellow perianth with an orange/red cup, exhibited by Garfield and Bev Andrew, of Seadown.

A vase of three white seedlings, named "Blanco Sol" received the Champion Vase award for Pleasant Valley Daffodils of Geraldine.
