Vintage swapmeet a major social event
In its 30th year the Winchester swapmeet was as popular as ever on Saturday as everything from rare car parts to handmade gifts were being snapped up by delighted purchasers.
The South Canterbury Vintage Car Club's annual event featured 300 stalls at the Winchester showgrounds.
Swapmeet chairman Grant Mehrtens said though there were 20 stalls fewer than 2014, it was not an issue as the number fluctuated from year to year.
He was unsure of how much profit the club made but it was likely to be around the $8000 mark.
"The cash comes in the gate and then goes out through eftpos."
The goods on sale included "anything you can imagine", he said.
Money raised would be used for maintenance on the clubrooms and for future projects.
The swapmeet was not just a buy, sell and trade day. It was also a social gathering for like-minded people, Mehrtens said.
"There is a lot of input from a lot of people to make this happen."
