A coffee group for newcomers to Geraldine, started from an influx of of people moving to the area, has gone down a treat.
Administrator Donna Auld, of the Geraldine Resource Centre, said 18 people had attended the first get-together held at the centre's office on Peel St last Wednesday.
"We didn't really expect that number. We were pleasantly surprised."
Because of its popularity, the next get-together on May 16 would be held at the Orchard Cafe, at 10am, to accommodate the numbers. "Everybody that would like to join us is welcome to come to the cafe."
Mrs Auld said the coffee group not only aimed to benefit those new to town, but also families and people who were retired or semi-retired.
People who attend the newcomers group are encouraged to give a gold coin donation. Participants are asked to fill in a brief questionnaire, asking them how regularly they might like to meet and what other services they would like the group to provide.
The resource centre has also been working on updating the town's service directory, which includes details of clubs, groups, schools, doctors and organisations.
