Timaru's "Indoor Sports Zone" has closed after the operators could not come to agreement with the building owner over rent.
The indoor stadium in Seadown Rd was used for netball, soccer, dodge-ball and cricket.
Christchurch-based Nicol O'Donnell, who owned the business, was disappointed she could not come to an agreement over the rent after some negotiations.
"We could not justify what the landlord wanted for increased rent, there was just not enough business."
Ms O'Donnell had owned the business only since last July.
"We really wanted to make it a success but that cannot happen now."
Building owner Les Rawlings said because they could not agree on the rent, Ms O'Donnell chose not to renew the lease and they ceased the business.
