A community board by-election will be held in the Waitaki district following the resignation of a member.
Diane Curtis has resigned from the Waihemo community board, creating an "extraordinary vacancy".
Being 12 months before the next local government elections the vacancy must be filled under the Local Electoral Act.
The by-election is set down for September 7 by a postal voting system.
If no nominations are received, the board can make an appointment, or if one nomination is received, the candidate is declared elected unopposed. Both outcomes would cost $5400.
If more than one nomination is received, a full by-election will be held at an estimated cost of $16,000.
Advertising for candidate nomination began this week.
