A young Rakaia man's early morning trip in a work truck ended badly yesterday.
The 19-year-old was charged with driving with an excess breath alcohol level of 702mcg, careless driving, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and driving while disqualified after crashing on State Highway 1 between Orari and Winchester at 1am.
Sergeant Geoff McCrostie, of Timaru, said the man had lost control of his vehicle and "taken out" a power pole and a letterbox. He was not injured.
The farm truck has been impounded and was yet to be returned to the owner.
It was the man's third drink-driving charge and third disqualified driving charge.
