A seventy-five-year-old Timaru man has been sentenced to nine months' home detention for indecently assaulting two young girls in the 1970s.
Graham Clifford Baker has plead guilty in the Timaru District Court to inducing a girl aged between 8 and 10 to perform an indecent act on him between 1970 and 1971 in Palmerston North.
He also plead guilty to performing an indecent act on a girl aged between 7 and 11 and inducing a girl aged between 7 and 11 and to perform an indecent act on him between between 1973 and 1975 in Ashurst.
Judge Joanna Maze noted the profound impact on the victims.
"You have all along accepted there was a profound impact and expressed your deep remorse.
"Each (girl) was vulnerable by age and there was a significant breach of trust. An aggravating feature is the extent of harm which is long lasting. There are no mitigating factors.''
