A mechanic has been taken to hospital after being injured in a freak accident at a Timaru vehicle workshop this morning.
The mechanic was trapped against equipment after the car he was working on was knocked off a hoist by a woman driving another car into the service bay at Bob Robb Motors in Butler Street.
The Timaru Fire Service were called to assist in freeing the man who was taken to hospital by St John Ambulance
Fire service Station officer Roy Hoogenraad said it was fortunate the man was working at the side of the vehicle, which had had its wheels removed while on the hoist.
''The mechanic was quite badly shaken. He has a few bumps and bruises. The woman hit the car on the hoist, on a corner, pushing it off and sideways.''
Mr Hoogenraad said if the mechanic had of been working at the front of the car or underneath he did not like to think what could have happened.
