Timaru has experienced its 23rd high air pollution day this year, four more than at the same time in 2011.

The health guideline was exceeded on Tuesday with a 24-hour average concentration of 58 micrograms of suspended particulate per cubic metre of air at the monitoring site in Anzac Square.

Any level over 50mcg is considered a high air pollution event.
