Fire at medical centre treated as arson
Police are continuing to investigate a suspicious fire at a Timaru medical centre.
The Victoria St medical centre was damaged by the fire late on Friday night. Police are treating it as arson.
Wheelie bins at the centre were set alight, with the fire spreading to the nearby building.
Police have now received a report of paper being set alight in a wheelie bin at Sacred Heart Primary School, one block from the medical centre, some time over the weekend. The rubbish bin was well away from buildings and the fire caused no other damage, Detective Paul Cooper, of Timaru, said yesterday.
It was unclear whether the two fires were linked.
Mr Cooper was still keen to hear from anyone who had been in the Victoria St area after 11pm on Friday, or had seen anyone acting suspiciously in that location.
The fire set off a burglar alarm at the medical centre at 11.34pm.
