Lost cash returned
$200 lost down toiletMEGAN MILLER
An envelope containing $200 cash was lost, found and returned to its rightful owner Wednesday - after a brief swim in a toilet.
A Geraldine woman withdrew the cash from an ATM in Timaru’s Northtown Mall and then went into the toilets, where she accidentally dropped the envelope into a toilet bowl, according to police.
The woman didn’t notice she’d dropped the money, and left.
A second woman - also from Geraldine - later noticed the envelope floating in the toilet and saw that it was clearly full of money, she told police.
She fished it out of the toilet and turned the money over to the Northtown Mall community constable.
Meanwhile, the distressed owner of the cash called the office seeking her money. Police said it was returned to her after she provided a very accurate description.
