The Temuka Rugby Club celebrated one of its most successful seasons in recent years and got some heavyweight star power to do it on Saturday night.
New Zealand boxer Shane Cameron compared fists with locals, shot down the age-old question about a possible fight with All Black Sonny Bill Williams, and relived his loss in Temuka in an amateur cruiserweight bout in 2001.
A strong senior season for the club culminated in the Hamersley Cup team making the semifinals and the senior B team winning their final.
Club president Steve Fisher said player retention would be key for 2013, but he was eager to work more closely with Opihi College to offer students pathways into teams at the club, particularly at under-14 and under-18 level.
Hooker Aifala Taelega was named the club's senior player of the year, while Paul Coles was saluted for scoring a club-best nine tries.
