Homes were left without power after a van collided with a power pole south of Winchester last night.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the crash on State Highway 1 at 9.48pm, after reports a van towing a trailer had collided with a power pole, trapping the driver.
However, Temuka police sergeant Graham Sharp said the sole male occupant from Greymouth, who had minor injuries, had been able to free himself before police arrived.
Mr Sharp said Alpine Energy had also been dispatched to the scene but had been unable to reconnect power to 11 homes.
