KiwiRail to cut 3 jobs in Sth Canty
KiwiRail plans to reduce staff numbers by three in Timaru and not 16 as earlier reported.
A spokeperson confirmed this afternoon that she had been given the wrong information.
''There are 13 network staff in the Timaru/Oamaru areas and we are proposing to reduce by three,'' she said.
While no final decision has been made, a planned network reduction spend over the next three years will reduce staff numbers by 181 nationally.
The spokesperson said a new structure would be implemented in October with information to be collected and considered over the coming weeks.
She said KiwiRail is proposing a reduction from 70 to 54 network staff in Timaru, Oamaru and Dunedin.
Those staff undertake track, signals, and structures work.
''We have looked closely at the existing 1000-strong network staff structure and where the highest need for these staff will be over the coming years in order to propose these changes.''
