Any decisions on extending parking at the new Caroline Bay Trust Aoraki Centre will be considered at the district council's next budget round.
Parking has been at a premium since the centre opened six weeks ago, with both car parks frequently full, as well as visitors parking on the surrounding streets.
“We are really pleased with the enthusiastic public response to CBay," council's community services manager Sharon Matson said.
She added that there would be a need "to continue to assess demand for car parks to ensure that we are catering for the true sustainable demand and not just the opening bow-wave of interest."
