Attack on home frightens resident
An 83-year-old Timaru woman is still upset following a late-night attack on her Marchwiel home.
The woman, who declined to be named, heard a loud bang on the front door of her Elmsdale Tce home, followed by two people yelling, at 11.45pm on Saturday.
When she got up to investigate, she found the door open and the lock broken.
The culprits had already gone, she said.
The woman, who lives on her own, had been sitting in her lounge watching television at the time of the attack.
"I was sitting here quietly, enjoying the rugby and there was an almighty bang and the door was [pushed] right open.
"I didn't see anybody - I just heard them yell and then take off.
"I think they might have got a fright because the (security) lights went on."
"I'm still shaking over it."
She said there were two footprints on the deck and another one on the door.
Family members stayed with her for the rest of the night and police searched the area with dogs, but have not yet found anyone in relation to the incident.
