Port to reveal result
PrimePort Timaru will announce its annual result for 2012 today on the back of losing all of its container trade and nearly half its staff this year.
The port company will hold its AGM at 5pm tonight, outlining its position as of the end of June this year.
PrimePort has already made public it will shed 29 staff at the end of this month, after it was announced in June the company had lost its container trade due to Maersk and Hamburg Sud withdrawing the call to the region, with the last visit on Sunday.
Of the 55 positions at the port, 42 will be scrapped and 13 new roles will be created.
The port also employs 30 casual workers. Under the proposed changes the pool of casuals will continue to be employed with no guaranteed hours, no days of work and no continuing guarantee of work.
A group of six within that pool will be selected for preferred engagement.
