Timaru basked in a warm 27 degrees Celsius yesterday, enticing some, like Sara Meredith, down to Caroline Bay.
Ms Meredith headed to the bay after work to listen to music in the water.
MetService spokesperson Daniel Corbett said there was a "nice offshore flow" keeping the weather balmy.
Nor-west winds were expected to be "quite strong" today, with a high of 22C, he said. However, he warned South Cantabrians to make the most of it as rain was forecast to set in tonight.
A high of 12C is expected on Saturday.
"It's a roller-coaster ride of weather."
