FOR SALE: Margaret Robson and Jan Marris of the Masonic Hotel in St Andrews.

A slice of St Andrews history goes to auction on Thursday.
The Masonic Hotel is being offered for sale as a freehold going concern. Owners Jan Marris and Margaret Robson bought the pub in 2008 and spent 18 months renovating it.
The original Masonic Hotel was established in 1876. However, in a weird turn of events, a blaze gutted the hotel in suspicious circumstances on August 19, 1936 - the same day ownership was signed over.
In 1937, the new owner rebuilt the hotel into the popular art deco style as seen today.
Extensive renovations were carried out between 1964 and 1975 before the doors closed in 2007 for the first time in 70 years. It has a land area of 3036 square metres, floor area of 570m2 and a rateable value of $500,000.
