Trailing scarecrows for good cause
Scarecrows will take their place along Geraldine's roadsides from Saturday to help raise funds for the town's kindergarten.
The straw characters will go on display from Saturday until November 18, coinciding with this year's Geraldine Arts and Plants, which returns from November 15-18.
About 20 local businesses and residents are taking part in this year's scarecrow trail fundraiser. They will use children's story book characters for inspiration.
The theme has given participants a wide range of possibilities to work from, including fairytales, nursery rhymes and classic stories, spokeswoman Marcelle de Bonth said.
People who want to take part in the trail can purchase a map for $5 from the Geraldine i-Site and Geraldine Resource Centre. The map guides them through the town to where the scarecrows are located. "Grab a trail map and walk or bike the trail, view the scarecrows and guess their identity," she said.
Every entry goes in a prize draw. Participants can also vote for their favourite scarecrow.
The Geraldine Kindergarten home and kindergarten committee will host a family fun day tour of the trail on Sunday at 11am. Participants will leave from the Geraldine Kindergarten and are required to purchase a trail map to take part.
