Band's plea for bell rings out

BELL SEARCH: The hunt is on for a bell to be used during the Alpine Energy Timaru Brass Band's performance of Lone Pine at Anzac Remembered on Remembrance Day.

Ken Osborne is hoping his plea will ring a bell for someone in Timaru.

Alpine Energy Timaru Brass Band conductor Dwayne Bloomfield has given him the job of finding a bell for the band's performance of Lone Pine at the Anzac Remembered concert at the Theatre Royal on Sunday.

And so far, Ken's had no luck finding what he needs, so he's hoping Timaru Herald readers might be able to assist.

He's looking for the sort of bell that many schools used to have - not the hand-held version, but its bigger brother, which usually hung from some kind of stand, and sounds more like a church bell.

Ken says he's been told about the bells from the shipwrecked Elginshire and Benvenue, but feels it isn't right to be shifting those around, so is hoping someone, somewhere, has an alternative to offer.

If anyone can offer the band a loan of a bell, please contact Ken on 686 2266, or Kent Smith at Newmans MusicWorks.
