ON SHOW: Ben Simpson and Tory Beach from DCODE were getting ready for Timaru on Show Day yesterday by advertising their sale.

It may officially be Christchurch show day, but Timaru and Geraldine are determined to show off also.

The Timaru Retail Association is holding Timaru On Show, today, while Geraldine is in full swing with the Arts and Plants Festival featuring a boulevard market today between 10am and 4pm and a market day tomorrow.

Timaru On Show will run from 10am until 7pm, with Stafford St closed off, and stalls, giveaways and entertainment all day.

Association chairman Keith McRobie said Timaru On Show was an attempt to resurrect the old boulevard day.

"It is something that used to happen in Timaru on show day.

"We are hoping to attract Ashburton and Christchurch people.

"We don't think we will be competing with Geraldine, it will be complimentary."

Geraldine's Arts and Plants Festival kicked off yesterday with events taking place right across the town.

The boulevard market today and market day on Saturday bring together a wide variety of craft and plant stalls.
