DHB has 5 staff on $320,000 plus

South Canterbury District Health Board pay packets have increased for some staff, with five employees now earning between $320,001 and $350,000.

The highest wage paid to a staff member last year was between $310,001 and $320,000. Four employees were earning that wage bracket last year and two are earning it this year.

There are 942 people employed by the South Canterbury District Health Board.

The DHB's latest annual report shows 66 employees were paid more than $100,000 for the 2012 year. In the previous year, 62 staff were paid more than $100,000, which was a significant jump from the 2010 year when 54 staff were earning six-figure salaries.

Of the 66 earning more than $100,000 in the 2012 year, 52 were clinical staff.

In 2011, 49 of the 62 employees at that salary level were clinical staff.

SCDHB chief executive Chris Fleming is one of two staff to earn between $310,001 and $320,000. Last year he was earning between $300,000 and $310,000.

Committee members received a total of $86,573, a sharp increase from last year's total of $57,877.

Overall the SCDHB's income and expenditure were both above budget, and it ended up with an overall surplus of $304,000. It received an income of $174,094,000, $2,106,000 more than it budgeted for. However, it spent $173,790,000, which was $1,302,000 more than budgeted.
