Timaru police are still investigating a complaint alleging the breach of an interim suppression order, made by District Court judge Joanna Maze last week.
Judge Maze suppressed details identifying a 26-year-old man charged in relation to a suspected abduction and assault of a nine-year-old boy.
Comments claiming to identify him and making threats against him, appeared on social media within hours of his court appearance on Wednesday at the Timaru District Court.
The accused has been remanded in custody. It is a crime to knowingly or recklessly publish material that a judge has suppressed.
Mid-South Canterbury area commander Inspector David Gaskin said the investigation was still being worked on.
"It is progressing. We will be speaking to who put it (the comments) up there to find out why they did it."
