Trust offers cash boost to community groups
Geraldine community groups could soon get their share of more than $20,000 being offered annually through the Thomas Hobson Trust.
The trust, which benefits not-for-profit community groups in what was formerly known as the Geraldine County, has $22,000 in its Geraldine account and a further $16,500 in its Temuka account.
Successful applicants must put their money towards a project which the community can benefit from at all times without charge.
The Geraldine Community Resource Trust has applied for a grant. If successful it will put the money towards replacing carpet at the resource centre. The Geraldine Scout group has also applied. It wants to buy two tents and a marquee for the group to use and the public to hire.
An application has been received from the Geraldine Family and Youth Trust to help buy new play equipment.
Applications have also been received from Asthma South Canterbury, Hospice South Canterbury, Peel Forest Outdoor Pursuits Charitable Trust, the combined Red Cross and Silver Band and the Salvation Army Timaru.
