Auckland-based motivational speaker Hap Cameron will speak in Timaru next week in a concert fundraiser that will include live performances by local artists.

Money raised from the event, being held at the Aoraki Polytechnic gymnasium on December 10 and including performances by local musicians and dancers, will go to the group Help Prevent Youth Suicide in South Canterbury.

Organiser Hayley Walsh said Mr Cameron, who has in the last eight years travelled and lived on seven continents, holding down 32 jobs, had approached the polytech about incorporating a talk with a concert.

Ms Walsh said he was an ideal speaker to have in the city as he was a big supporter of youth suicide prevention.

"He makes you think that anything can be achievable.

"He's done a lot and it shows you can pretty much do anything, and just to not give up."

One act that has been confirmed is Geraldine High School dance group Third. Three other local bands have yet to be confirmed.

Mr Cameron will also visit book shops in the city to sign copies of his book Hap Working The World.
