Waimate's famous Strawberry Fare is on again with a lineup of entertainment and cuisine hitting town over the weekend.

The community event has attracted large crowds for more than 20 years as the district takes time to celebrate the little red fruit that has been grown in Waimate since 1880.

Co-ordinator Fiona Brown said more than 270 stalls are booked and the event is scheduled to start at 10.30am on Saturday. Santa arrives at 11am. "Every year the organisation is just getting easier; we have a great committee. We just get so many people coming through the town . . . the event shows what we've got to offer."

Ms Brown said she is looking forward to taking care of the Topp Twins who will be making an afternoon appearance at the event before performing in the evening at the Regent Theatre.

Other entertainers at the fair include Vanessa Kelly and Les Richardson, Third Dance Troupe, Craig Smith and Henry Francis.
