The 26-year-old Timaru man charged with the assault of a 9-year-old schoolboy found distressed at Holme Station Bridge on November 15, has been remanded to appear on December 17.
The accused was to appear yesterday in the Timaru District Court.
At his first appearance on November 21, Judge Joanna Maze ordered a psychiatric assessment into his fitness to stand trial.
The accused entered no plea on an indictable charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
At that appearance his counsel J Lovely said the accused's recollection of events was sketchy. His arrest followed an alleged abduction of a 9-year-old, who was found at Holme Station Bridge, more than 15 kilometres from Timaru by road.
The boy was found at 4.20pm, after leaving Oceanview Heights School at 3pm.
Interim name suppression continues until his next appearance.
Judge Maze also denied an application to photograph the accused because ''these matters are premature and because of matters raised by the police and because of the identification of a person whose name is suppressed by law''.
