BURN-OFF: A rubbish fire on the outskirts of Timaru prompted a call to the Fire Service.

The Fire Service was called to a blaze in Mahoneys Hill Rd this morning that turned out to be a rubbish fire in an inappropriate spot.

Firefighters from Washdyke station responded to the scene at 8.30am and found rubbish being burned and creating a lot of smoke, a Fire Service spokesman said.

Rubbish fires are not permitted within the Timaru town boundary.
