SEASONAL RUSH: Christmas shopping can be a time of hustle and bustle on the main street.

Feeling blue about Christmas, or simply wanting a break from the hustle and bustle of this time of year, then there is an option - Tuesday's Blue Christmas events in Timaru.

The Timaru Presbyterian Parish held its first Blue Christmas event last year, and will repeat it with 45 minutes of "reflective space" at the Trinity Chapel on College Rd at 2pm and 7pm on Tuesday.

Minister Dr Susan Jones said people can feel "blue" about Christmas for many reasons. It might remind them of those who have died during the year, or they feel sad about family who cannot be with them this Christmas, or they simply hate the hustle and bustle that accompanies the festive season.

Mrs Jones said the events will offer 45 minutes of music and poetry as well as an opportunity to write a note of remembrance to tie on to a special "angel" tree.

The tree will be moved to the Zest restaurant in the Chalmers Friendship Centre the following day. The same thing was done last year with many of the customers adding remembrance angels to the tree in the lead-up to Christmas.
