Scarecrow damage upsets kids
A scarecrow handmade by students and teachers at Timaru’s West End Kindergarten fell victim to street violence on Monday night.
The scarecrow was removed from the garden of the Kiwi Drive school, taken out into the street and destroyed by a group of people riding bicycles and scooters over it repeatedly, school officials said.
West End Kindergarten children made a poster to record their thoughts when they made their scarecrow.
The incident occurred sometime after 8.30pm on Monday.
The scarecrow’s head was formed from a plastic garden pot that shattered under the riders' wheels.
"The children were very disappointed to come back and see that their work had been destroyed," teacher Sally Hall said.
