Funding a trip to Bangladesh has been no mean feat for a group of Timaru teenagers who are working hard to make their journey a reality.

The group has been raising money for their overseas adventure and will hold a Craft Bonanza at the Gleniti Baptist Church tonight and tomorrow. The event will feature a range of homemade crafts.

Teenagers involved in the trip, which is to take place in early 2014, are part of the Gleniti Baptist Youth Group. They need to raise between $30,000 and $35,000 to get them to Bangladesh and back.

Dale Davey, who has been helping the teenagers make their dream a reality, said it was not yet known exactly how many teenagers will travel.

She said the project was launched after some of the church's young members announced they wanted to work overseas in disadvantaged parts of the world.

"This would be an experience to help them decide what career path would be best suited to their personal skills and how they would like to help shape the future of disadvantaged people.

"We have adults in the church who are prepared to travel with them for support and to lend their own skills to any project finally decided on."

The group has raised $200 from the bonanza so far, all of which has come from stall hirings.

Organisers welcome more stall enquiries up until noon today. A cafe would also be open, Mrs Davey said.

The Craft Bonanza will run from 7 to 8.30 tonight and 9am till 2.30pm tomorrow.
