The heat is really on
Balmy weather is forecast to remain this weekend as South Canterbury starts to soak up the summer heat.
The thermostat hit a sweltering 28 degrees Celsius mid-afternoon yesterday and warm weather is set to stay until Monday afternoon.
Wind gusts up to 40 kilometres per hour hit Timaru yesterday as northwesterlies persisted. At Mt John in Tekapo, winds up to 70kmh were recorded.
MetService forecaster Marylin Avery said morning cloud was expected today before northeasterly conditions brought sun this afternoon.
The warm weather would continue tomorrow with northwesterlies in the afternoon bringing a forecast high of 27 degrees.
Summer weather is forecast to continue on Monday with an expected high of 27 degrees before late afternoon southerlies bring rain. Sun and pollen alerts are high, and sun seekers are reminded to slip, slop, slap and wrap.
