Police seek driver after toddler hit
Timaru police want to speak with the driver of a vehicle that struck a toddler after the child ran into the street on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred about 2pm in Wilson St, said Constable Hamish Caird, while the toddler was apparently playing at a neighbour's home with other children.
The boy, along with some other children, began to cross the road at the same time that a maroon four-wheel drive vehicle towing a trailer was driving past.
The male driver swerved to avoid hitting the toddler but the trailer hit the boy, Mr Caird said.
The toddler suffered moderate injuries including a cut on his foot and some other cuts and bruises. He was kept overnight at Timaru Hospital and released on Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and spoke with adults at the residence and "offered to do everything he could" to help, Mr Caird said. However, he did not leave any contact details.
The driver and any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact Constable Hamish Caird on 03 687 9808.
