South Canterbury basked in warm summer weather at the weekend, and temperatures look to remain high into the start of the week.

Today's temperature is expected to push upward to 28degC.

While temperatures are expected to cool tomorrow, down to 18C with rain in the morning, the showers should clear in the evening, MetService said.

After that, both Wednesday and Thursday are looking fine, with temperatures topping out above 25C both days.

Yesterday Timaru's temperatures reached 25C. Ashburton was the warmest spot in the country, with temperatures reaching 27.5C.
