Geraldine's information centre will stay put, despite an announcement last week that it was being relocated.
The centre, which was to be moved to the Kiwi Country Visitor Complex, will remain in the Four Peaks shopping centre.
Tourism manager Katerina Tiscenko said feedback from community and business representatives indicated that an independent site within the Four Peaks complex was the preferred option.
She said a new opportunity was available to enable the service to continue at Four Peaks.
The Geraldine i-SITE welcomes about 35,000 visitors annually.
Latest figures show those visitors were a mixture of domestic and international travellers and local people, who made use of the booking services offered through the i-SITE.
